Animations and stills from my portfolio

The link below will direct you to my portfolio where I showcase my best pieces. In the main, these pieces were created by me in my own free time rather than through studies or via academic briefs.

Abandoned

This animation I made shortly after visiting london, where I saw many abandoned buildings. I wanted to create the feeling that this particular building had once had a purpose and a life before its demise. What I find interesting about this piece is the attention to detail, such as the moss and weathering of the bricks, the chips out the front door and the grime on the windows.

Dreaming

My inspiration of this piece was how lucid dreaming feels. the ability to control the area around you, manipulating it with memories or horrors. That is why I included everyday household items such as chairs, tables, TVs, etc. The tiling on the floor represents the journey through the dream which is being assembled as the user moves along the path.

Moon, Mars and Beyond

I have always had a fascination with space and how planets mght look on the surface. I wanted to experiment with how the sun hits the dust and the ethereal effect that this created. I also wanted to give the rover emotion such as head movements and rotation to give the impression of exploration and wonder. This is why I decided to produce a sole rover on a lifeless planet which is potentially habitable such as Mars. The sand texture and rocks are a detailed aspect as well as the hills and horizon.

Adrenaline

This is one of the first long animations that i created. The scene represents a supercar driving at speed through a tunnel. I wanted to create a piece that shows my ability in shading, lighting, and other realistic effects as a car passes through a tunnel. it also shows the amount of detail behind the model, the brake calipers, front grille, and angular shape fo the front bonnet.

Studio

This piece uses the same brick texture from the abandoned building, but in a much closer, detailed environment. I wanted to create a feeling of tranquility, by addingthe blossom, the low sun angle and particles to show that the scene is undisturbed. the volumetrics add an aspect of aging to the room and help diffuse the light bounces that would be found in the afternoon of a summers day.

Industrial

Set inside an industrial factory which has been abandoned for a while, the ceiling is crumbling, cables on the floor and the big fan still. I wanted to create a scene that shows the factory was once an active environment which has now come to a grinding holt. I tried to focus on the realism and clutter like the cables, mass of pipes, and the used, discarded wires on the floor.

Supporting Statement

My goal for pursuing this area of study is to enhance my capabilities, and I am determined to put them to use through films, games and more. It has always been a dream to work behind the screens, to create moving wonders for films and TV shows. I am fascinated by every small detail that someone behind the scenes in the visual effects industry has thought through and the work that went in to make such wonders happen.

All my portfolio work has been self-taught and through research, video tutorials and trial and error. These pieces of work I have produced have been week-long processes, which makes me wonder what I could do with industry grade technology, and a lot more time than just one week.

All of my ideas come from spontaneity, meaning I start building a model and see where it leads me. Every one of these pieces have not ben how i invisioned them. I see many imperfections in all of these renders which could all be perfected with enough time and effort.
